achievement as the sun peeked through my windows, i opened my eyes to feel the warmth of the sun kissing my skin.. only to realise the warmth prob came from my sunburn. pain shot through my back and butt as i stirred to go wash up and so i succumbed to it and just collapsed back in bed after attempting to raise my head more than 5cm above the pillow. too much. yesterday has drained the strength from me.
still, i bear testimony to the effectiveness of counterpain in reducing the amount of ache fatigue! my pre-sleep routine last nite comprised of me slathering on layers of counterpain cream onto my thighs and calves and hamstring muscles and massaging it deep into my skin so it can be fully soaked up. ahhhhhhhhhhhh. hence today my leg aches have been greatly reduced although they still feel sore. the throes of running 10 000metres.
yes- 10 000 metres aka 10km. i can't believe i gave in to peer pressure and agreed to sign up for it. yet having said that, i must give thanks to shi hui and es for 'encouraging' me to join coz i now know that what i had perceived to be an impossible distance is now achievable in my sprinter life. so.. THANK YOU! haha.
thank God for giving us good weather and restoring shihui and i back to health!! when shihui and i started out our stan chart women's 10km full of energy and vigour, the weather was cool and nicely warm. though by 3k we were totally punctured and decided to op for a stroll which was how jac finally found us. hee. and that gal better pangseh us at the end when she dashed to the finishing line way ahead of us. HRMPH! ah wells. but it was a good time of run/walk.=) i will walk with you i will run with you until the end of 10km..
it felt uber shiok crossing the finishing line and knowing that u are so not the last. haha. even better coz we were aiming for 2hours and we finished in 1h26min! woohoo! the place was packed and after finally locating jaclyn who half fainted and i had to give her a massage session, i decided to set off in search of the face painting booth i had told es to meet us at after his marathon. then i discovered that there was no face painting booth! ahhh!!!
panicked, i quickly messaged him in case he had finished his race already since 5 hours had since past, and shihui accompanied me to wait at the finishing line for him in the sweltering heat. after 10min.. there was still no sight, so shihui headed back to the shade first. then after another 9min, i finally saw mark! who looked half dead and said es had leg cramp at 19k and would prob take another 2 hours to reach. my heart just sank. didn't expect him to have leg cramp so early, but knowing es..even if he had to crawl, he would still finish the race. his ego's too big and his determination's too strong to quit halfway. hence i decided to cheer him on his remaining journey. shihui decided to follow me along too but thank God after a quick peek into the first aid tent just to check, i saw es in the distance as i was cutting across the padang! he had FINISHED!!! omg! i almost died of shock as i sprinted after to him to see if it was really es. and yes he was. holding his marathon shirt in hand. hee.
i'm so mega proud of es for completing his first marathon, even if the time wasn't to his liking. but at least he completed! and i felt all the more proud of him when i read about this experienced marathon guy who quit at 20+k after he had leg cramps too. hee. CONGRATS DARLING!!=)
met a whole lot of people at stanchart. like mr tay and mr goh (my cedar track coach and physics teacher) who took part in the marathon too. it's like the 13th marathon for mr tay la! and he really knows me best- he knew this must have been the longest distance i have ever ran in my life. hee. met bixia, mimi, some church friends and ex-cedar friends too. ahhhh. hardcore runners indeed.
so yesterday was my day of achievement. and fun enjoying the company after that. hee.
jolene's happie and contented.=) peektures pre-race looking fresh and chirpy

ooh. es is such a dear. he accompanied me on my post-race retail therapy session without complaining a word abt how tired he is despite running a marathon and even helped me to carry my stuff. though he did attempt to stop me from spending. raahhs. and i discovered i had lost my hp when i reached home and when i tried calling, my hp had been switched off. yet in my heart i wasn't entirely panicky. i called es immediately and told him abt it and next thing i know, es called me back and said he had managed to contact the fellow who found my hp and would be meeting him to collect it back for me in 10min. next thing i know, es was at my place with my hp. he hadn't even bathed or changed yet even though he was mega tired. es is just such a dear.=)
