fatigued.the day started out with trng as usual.things are looking up-i can actually hear my kids counting during warm up stretches now.and they are actually beginning to remember most of it.i feel accomplished.time has not been wasted=)yet.time is running.and the kids aren't.there ain't enough to form a team for the P4 gals but the few who come are so excited about it,i feel really sorry for them.hmmm..troubling.. troubling.the responsibility.anyway,i headed off for class after trng.between the door to the desk,i had to surge thru the numerous complain kings and queens who relentlessly mounted their verbal attacks on their fellow classmates albeit at the expanse of my innocent ears.seriously,it's like .. war.it got to the point where i abandoned all thoughts of having a discussion with my class regarding the bare undecorated walls [the only one in cedar] of the classroom and i decided that today's half hour period shall be converted into a 'COMPLAINTS' session.omg.it must have been the top favourite period of their short lives.non-stop,the hands kept flying up to complain over any and every thing.from pinching buttocks to spraying water from the nike bottle on another person's face,anything.everything.at the end of 20min,the entire white board was covered, best friends had turned against each other, and enemies merely deepened the enemity between them.cute innocent boys no longer were judged from their looks and sweet unassuming gals were turned into sneaky conniving pranksters.that's my class.i called an end to it once the 5min-to-recess bell rang,yet..the complaints kept mounting up despite my shouting at them to keep quiet.these kids.so young.. so discontented..so angsty.i feel so sorry for them.innocence?i must have changed ur mind.anyways, i asked the class:'children, do u like what u see up on the whiteboard?''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!''will you do those things again?''NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!''yes, each and everyone of you cannot do these things because..are they right or wrong?''WRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGG!!''so as good boys and girls, you must NOT do these things right?''YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!'there. i did it.and it stayed with them for a grand total of 5 min before the pranks started again and the complaints reflowed.-_-"
i ended my lesson with my asking them to go home, reflect and think of only the good things about themselves and their fellow classmates.i hope they do.tmr i get the first 2 periods with them.technically i'm supposed to be going thru their sci paper with them and give them their progress reports.but i think morals have way higher weightage then ephemeral grades.oh yes-progress reports.i think they ain't really of much help in terms of reflecting the child's character.for the main sheet reflecting their final grades for all their subjects, their character is judged according to boxes with captions such as 'able to differentiate right from wrong' with only the columns of 'getting there', 'meeting expectations' and 'exceeding expectations' to tick appropriately.-_-"you can't write personal comments unless u type it out which would mean having to print on another sheet and i dun get my own laptop.so there goes all chances of ratting on those extreme brats in my class to their parents.oh wells.may term 2 be a more hopeful one.oh and of coz, brats aside, there are the little darlings too.like this one particular boy in my class who's different from the other gurkha kids.he's just so cute in that childlike way [ok i KNOW he's still a child] and so initiative.when i was just stoning during my gurkha class while the rest of the boys were running around in a war game frenzy with their paper bombs and guns, this lil boy stayed out of it coz i dun think it's his kinda thing.he just sat and stoned by himself at the back coz his best pal was outside taking a test.after a while, seeing the mess the boys were making,he actually got up,took a broom and started sweeping the floor and arranging the tables and chairs.driven by boredom, but still..such a dear.=)and he was the gem of my 4 hours and 45min of teaching with only a pathetic 20min break in between.
i nearly fainted towards the end coz i was so giddy since i had not eaten anything other then bread for breakfast.
the days ahead dun look to good either since i'm taking over the maths and sci class now.
great.
thank God hongyi will be helping me for sci on friday.
he already helped me out by offering to help mark my 41 maths workbooks after overhearing the task being handed to me by mr sun.
phew!
well, may the force be with him as he finally ventures up the upper levels.
