today
my first day back in cedar as a relief teacher again,
teaching lit and english for real this time.
the teacher i'm replacing has gotta be the best [*note tone of sarcasm]-
basically he instructed me to give out this lit assignment to a sec2 class without having gone thru it proper and yet expecting them to be able to do it.
they haven't really covered the book,the qns are set from chapters 1 to 5,and it was supposed to be timed.
i felt utterly terrible to inflict such cruelty upon them.
but after consulting with my colleagues [hee] back in the staff room,
it came to be that it was meant to be 'taught' to them,as in i was supposed to have gone thru the text with them.
the thing is,the last time i read that text was when i was their age-sec 2!
i can't rmb nuts and i didn't even bring the book!
so anyways,thanks to mrs lum who's uber helpful,she passed me her notes and text,
i spent my precious remaining 10min of my break planning wad i was gonna do before i rushed to my sec4 class,gave them a timed assignment,and spent tt duration reading up.
so in 45min,i covered 5 chapters,went thru the help notes and planned my lesson.
omg.
it was so stressful.
after a 2 week break,this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for my lazy brain to take.
but i survived!

and i realised i was pretty sarcastic with my comments throughout the day.
ok but it was good sarcasm,not the insulting kind of sarcasm.
ahhhhhhhh shoots.

so i redeemed myself barely with the 2nd sec2 class,while i tried to undo the damage i caused with the first one by running back to crash course them on techniques before i returned their assignment and told them to hand in the next lesson.
sighhh.

the fear and burden that i could have potentially damaged their literature skills.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!


had a quick lunch with jing since teaching assistants can only take a half hour break.
that's all she's entitled to after typing entire pages of maths workbooks covered in squiggly lines of mathematical questions.
it's cruelty!!
violation of human rights!
i'm so thankful i didn't agree to that.
but it was a good lunch of the same ole' chicken rice.=)


went to cedar primary after school.
been wanting to go them in quite a while..
haven't been to the new school building yet..
just doesn't feel the same.
no longer that comfy ole nostalgic feel abt the open spaced crumbly building with peeling paint and rust marks..replaced now by a concrete block enclosing the children within and a soccer field next to it all fenced up and padlocked..oh wells.
childhood and freedom indeed.
reason for heading there:
1) to see the building.
2) to get a job.
basically i managed to find my way to the super brand new office which has got to be a gazillion times larger than its predecessor,whereby i enquired abt relief teaching slots.
of coz they gave the standard reply of 'no vacancy but u can leave ur particulars..'
so happened that there was another lady there who looked up and said she'll go check with the principal abt it and she did.
i got interviewed by the principal who was pretty impressed by my resume apparently and told me she would like to take me even if they have no need for a relief currently but she would try to create something for me because she would like to give me the experience which is what i told her i was looking for.=D
so i've got a date with the pe hod on wed who was a former athlete at cedar girls too!
*mega smiles*
prayerfully it'll work out to a lasting employment as a relief teacher in cedar pri!
kids/brats will def be a challenge.
oh and ermx..the principal is thinking of letting me teach chinese despite my vehemont protest..

Mrs Ho: Can you teach Chinese?
me: *mega stunned* ermx NOOOO!i haven't spoken that language for a year.and i'm really not good at it.
mrs Ho: what did u get for your O levels Chinese?
me: ermx.. A2.
Mrs Ho: *gave a sorta yeah rite and you say you are bad at it look*

oh wells.
praying REAL HARD NOW.

but life's full of challenges eh?
me-who-hasn't-smelled-maths-for-2-years spent my first 2 weeks of a new year of freedom teaching.. mathematics.
and me-who-hasn't-done-pure-science-in-4-years will now be tutoring pri sch science.
if me-who-hasn't-excelled-in-chinese-since-i-was-born has to teach mandarin now,it would be such an ..
incredulous and fantastic experience.
