lit today is the worst paper i've ever taken in my entire life. ya know wad it's like to sit infront of 6 glaring questions that seem so familiar yet so vague? i never understood lit paper 3 anyway. give me 1 month and i doubt much will change. arrrrrrrrrrrghs!!!i can't let this pull down my entire lit marks!! but it was so demoralizing. a few lit quotes fluttering through my head..but none of help since i knew not how to answer any of the questions. it was a pray and pick carefully kinda situation. sighhh..that was the worst paper in my life. worst than econs.
but who cares [for now]?!! MY PRELIMS ARE OVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!! O-V-E-R!!!!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
today's prob one of my happiest days in my life in a looooooooooong time. it was the cheer upper i desperately needed. sher, ying and i decided to check out the singapore biennale [also means biannual] exhibits around city hall area, and we managed to get talia, meredith, siying, sharon and hui qing to join us too!!josey came along later [fortunate her does not take lit!]. so we settled that national library would be our first stop and we ended up dinning at bugis foodcourt for lunch during which we met this accountant lady who chatted with ying quite a bit. immediately i labelled her a potential quitter. she was griping abt how in singapore you can't have ur 'own personal space', like how u can't queue up to buy food without someone breathing down ur neck. omg. move to the antarctic la! so anyways,we went to the nat lib after tt and checkout the 3 basement exhibits. the first one was of the world cup match btw brazil and germany but instead of a soccer ball,it was of a book. would love to do such actions after me exams are finally over. then we went in and there was this entire section filled up completely with white books. meaning like all the books were totally white, from cover to cover, page to page. i left a comment in the guestbook abt how it was such a colourful exhibit since white is something like a mix of all the colours right?hahaha.my science rocks.
we headed next to the flaming exhibit in which some of the books appeared to be 'on fire'. what it actually was is a projector merely projected the image of flames licking the books. real coolios!! kinda looks like sun light reflection though..couldn't capture it properly.
yeah then we fooled around a lil bit and i discovered just how hot my butt is. so hot,it got 'ignited'. =D told ya!
headed to the World Vision photo exhibits on the 7th and 8th floor after that in which many blown up pictures, proudly sponsored by Canon, covered many boards.each pic was just so..thought provoking.a lot of it was from the ravaged areas like new orleans, indonesia, pakistan and especially Africa. that poor continent. studying geog has truly opened my eyes to the plight of the africans. from being struck by natural change in weather climates that cause those increased desertification and drought to being permanently stuck as an ELDC [economically less developed country] with poor government policies and management and frequently engaged in war. real tragic. just makes u feel so safe rite now in blessed Singapore. here we are, standing in air conditioned comfort, griping about the burden of books weighed down upon on our shoulders staring at photos of people who would die to be where we are now, more thann happy to carry our burden. if we were in their shoes, which is ironic since they can barely afford to feed themselves much less wear shoes,i bet we won't even last for an hour.seriously.their plights are just so.. tragic. there was this series of photos about the blind in a state in africa, and this pic especially struck out to me. it's about how blind students play soccer- there's a bell inside the ball so they can hear where it is. truly-soccer transcends all understanding if you're a guy.
then there was the feature of some sports stuff and they showed the really primitive methods of trng for this traditional form of wrestling in india which i can't remember the name.but their trng is really really tough and they still stick to their traditional trng methods and tools. like this guy is doing 'weight-lifting' with a STONE weight. and this phallic lookin symbol which the guy is hanging from is supposed to built up leg and arm muscles. maybe mtan should try tt for the track team..toughen them up. hahahaha.
ok this is an entirely nuts picture. it's of marathon runners taking part in the SAHARA marathon!! OMG la!!!braving those SANDSTORMS. but it's part of raising funds for the poor country the marathon is held in. [esmond-GET INSPIRED.haha]
then there were the pics on desertification and other climatic effects..ohhhh marvellous physical geog! so close to my heart...haha. this is really overwhelming- the effects of desertification [the process which causes biological land to be transformed to look more like a desert..something like tt] is really evident here. the poor boat has been left in a mini pool surrounded by the sand deposits. so extreme! yet it shows u how fast the rate of desertification is occurring at. still not convinced? this striking image of a horse trotting over extremely parched land of wad was once some river bed i think, simply reinforces the effects of climate change and the horros of global warming. STOP KILLING THIS EARTH OKKKK!!!
then there was this image of a 'bleeding' polar bear and i was like.. 'is it you know..female?' i mean..she could be having her period [do they have periods too?] turned out tt it was a polar bear killin and feasting on a seal. omg. horrors!
oh this picture reminded me of daryl. josey said it's the ears. sherene just roared with laughter. but oh wells..at least now we have a rough idea of wad daryl could potentially look like when he enters army. albeit ten shades darker of coz. HAHAHA.
ying went batty and decided to kiss her resident fruit bat. it's sad really..goes to show how hopeless the vj guys are that such a sweet babe has to resort to such measures with a bat. SIGHHH.
k afterwards, this lady was waiting outside the exhibit area and encouraged us to go to the 10th floor to check out more photo exhibits, this time done by locals [i think] about the singapore of yesteryears and now. it was pathetic,as in like she had to 'beseech' people to come check out the exhibit, holding a counter in her hand and giving free pictorial books that are actually quite thick to everyone. SUPPORT THE LOCALS!!!
this was some random thing in the corner of the exhibit area. now now,i would 'beware' of falling coconuts if i can still find them ever present in singapore. i bet they are rare even in east coast la.
duck rice anyone?
i wanna keep my hair that long. riteeeeeeeeeee. supercuts would strike me off their list of regular customers in no time then!haha.
sweeper's daymare.
yes-the singapore government is really getting desperate in tryin to hike up the numbers of the birth rate.
this is like..get this: sherene kang's new favourite STUDY venue. to spend $25 for 15min or so of being high up above the skyscrappers of singapore in a hot air balloon that's anchored to the ground, with the sun shining, wind blowing, and crows cawing. how..serene.
clearly sherene has been horribly nastily bitten by the VJ mugger bug. it has consumed her!! oh poor poor poor sherene!! i'll miss the ole carefree one!sighhh.. exams
further evidence of her mugger-ness. she has assumed the rold of MUGGER GANG LEADER! look how she proudly leads the pack outta the STUDY LOUNGE!! *GASPS*
we soon left nat library and wanted to head for the raining tree which sher knew to be somewhere along fullerton, but not specifically.the rest were kinda gettin a lil restless and didn't want to lug their heavy bags all the way to cityhall without being certain of where it is. wanderin around when u're tired and hungry ain't the wisest thing to do. but we seemed to be left with little choice due to the extremely unhelpful librarian, the engaged biennale helpline, and the inability to contact either me sis or sher's.so after pondering over who could possibly be at home now or in contact with the net,one person's name surfaced to mind. and omg- he 'saved' us la. hahaha.trusty indeed. THANKS!!! =D [the kiss is not for you. =P]
soon, with me as the trusty tour guide helming this excited group,we found ourselves in empress place in no time. along the way we saw this sculpture outside the arts house. it looks 2D rite?!! so cool la! but it's all a matter of perspective and we think that.. we make the sculpture look so much more aesthetically appealing! =D
this man in office attire helped us to take the pic, then we asked him where the raining tree was and he actually knew!he was so nice..found out he's also a victorian.he was actually at the recent dinner.then he told us how the tree only rains every 2 to 3 hours.like OMG!!i thought it rained every 15min!!and the rest were like..'i'm not gonna wait 2 hours for the tree to rain!'. but u know wad-we were just soooo blessed. like seriously. when we reached,we heard the sound of raindrops. the tree was raining!!!! woohoooooooooo!!i was praying silently in my head and totally thanking God! THANK YOU LORD!!! can't really see it but it IS raining! raindrops are falling on my head.. this exhibit is named 'Miracle' simply coz all the watchers were stumped by where the water came from.like u can't see any visible pipes sprayin water down. BUT being extremely inquisitive victorians.. they just couldn't help but touch here, point there to try and solve the mystery of the miracle the answer was quite simple actually: basically, there must have been some sorta camouflaged pipes leading up from the base of the trunk.but they were concealed by having the tree trunk being plastered over. so like the pipes are beneath the plaster layer, between it and the original trunk. quite cleverly done. quite easily solved by ever clever victorians. [told ya they're just BRAINS] sadly, the miracle remained no more a miralce..=(
we scooted off towards the esplanade.. stopping along the way to take pics with dearest..ermx..MerMer. hahahhaha. ok i meant the baby one. same diff. check out the school of fish! never knew they could survive in such large numbers in singapore waters.
we met this ex vj teacher outside the esplanade. she taught super many years ago and has some serious angsty opnions abt the education system. basically she was potential quitter no2. full of gripes abt the education system. wells,DO something about it then! i'm gonna try..haha. ten more years..
oh wells, all in all, this day has been a really really fab one for me especially since my legs are aching to the max rite now and wearing heels to watch the devil wears prada just now didn't help. ohhh the show is just FAB!GO WATCH!! my sis and i were going nuts over the clothes, bags and shoes featured. hahaha. but warning: NO BRAINS NEEDED.
k i'm off. as shagged as these fellow train-ers. haha.
can't wait for tmrrrrrrrrrr!!! woooooooooohooooooooo!! =D
